Description/Job Summary

The Direct Service Professional (DSP) is directly responsible for creating an environment that reflects the mission of RHD’s SALT program and complies with the standards of the Philadelphia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disabilities (DBHIDS). DSPs provide direct service to individuals served in the SALT program. DSPs play a vital role in the individual’s recovery, as they are, expected to assist with activities of daily living, skill building and any other services that help to promote independence. Additionally, DSPs are expected to model on-going growth and development and foster hope for all individuals served.
 
 Duties and responsibilities
  • Engage the participant according to established supervision levels and focus on targeted areas of recovery.
  • Assist in the process of identifying, developing and implementing the Individual Recovery Service/Behavioral Plans.
  • Implement the goals from the participant’s recovery service plan and/or from therapist/consultant’s.
  • Assist the participants with day to day activities and implement social skills.
  • Support and Encourage participants in movement towards greater independence.
  • Support participants to successfully integrate into the community, such as, teaching them transportation skills, connecting them to community activities and resources, and helping them identify gainful employment.
  • Complete and submit all program documentation /data collection forms.
  • Communicate with staff at shift change about the status of the participant.

Required Experience

At least 3-5 year’s prior experience working with individuals living with serious mental illnesses.

Required Education

A high school diploma or GED.

12 college credits in Human Services preferred

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable in implementing & monitoring various components of the Human Service Delivery System (recordkeeping; programming; assessment/services; data collection; supports etc.).
  • Possess exceptional organizational skills w/attention to detail, proficient verbal/written communication & documentation skills and the ability to perform multi-task.
  • Demonstrate the ability to write clear, concise, and behavioral health oriented notes.
  • Demonstrate clear knowledge of DBT skills (ie. Mindfulness, validation), motivational interviewing, trauma informed care and the recovery principles/model.
  • Possess basic computer skills. (word; excel; internet; accessing and researching information)
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Program Summary

RHD's SALT program provides a variety of services to individuals with serious mental illness in their own homes. Services are based upon the individual's needs and include crisis intervention, counseling, medication monitoring, skill building, and any service needed to assist the individual in maintaining his/her independent living.
