Overview of Position:
This job carries with it the obligation to respect the dignity and recognize the potential for growth of every individual who receives or provides services and supports, and to advocate for the rights of those people. The Therapeutic Residential Specialist
I (TRS I) is responsible for safety and supervision of the clients to prevent problematic sexual behaviors and other socially unacceptable behaviors. This position will coordinate with clinical staff, implement residentially-based interventions and support
the clients in developing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The TRS I is responsible for remaining consistent with the interventions and approaches outlined in the client’s ISP, clinical plan, behavioral plan, restrictive plan and other plans as identified.
Listen to concerns, accept responsibility for improving the situation, and act accordingly to satisfy the needs of the clients and program.
Model appropriate and professional behavior for staff and clients.
Supervise the clients according to planned supervision levels.
Provide 24-hour awake staffing/supervisor to individuals
Assist in the development and implementation of safety plans.
Complete all data forms and site documentation.
Communicate with staff at shift change about the status of the clients.
Prepare, assist with preparing, or supervise menu planning and meal preparation.
Assist the clients, supervise the cleaning or clean the home, identify needs for repairs, and report needs to the Site Supervisor.
Assist the clients, supervise the maintenance or maintain the grounds of the home, identify needs for repairs, and report needs to the Site Supervisor.
Transport clients to all appointments, activities, and community events.
Facilitate opportunities to engage in approved activities in the home and community.
Administer medications as prescribed (after completion of approved training).
Provide emergency first aid and follow emergency procedures as needed.
Implement the goal plans from the individualized plans (ISP, clinical, behavioral, restrictive etc.) and from therapists.
Follow all policies and procedures from the City of Pittsburgh, Resources for Human Development, Mainstay Community Services, and Community Passages, as well as state and federal regulations, and all other applicable laws.
Identify, write-up and notify the point person for all incidents within the mandated timelines.
Maintain appropriate boundaries at all times.
Active participation in all meetings and trainings that pertain to their job duties including but not limited to: House Meetings, Staff Support Training, and Emergency Meetings.
Maintain all training as required.
Act in accordance with the RHD Values at all times when in the workplace.
Assist the Residential Supervisor as assigned.
Knowledge Requirements (training provided):
Knowledge of Psycho-educational programming procedures.
Knowledge of the characteristics of sex offenders.
Knowledge of and compliance with the PA Chapter 6400 regulations.
Knowledge of corporate and unit policies and procedures.
Ability to maintain professional and therapeutic boundaries.
Ability to support clients in the development and implementation of safety plans.
Ability to achieve outcomes with clients during Psycho-educational programs.
Ability to support and implement unit values and beliefs.
Ability to write effective communication, progress notes, reports, and data.
Ability to speak frankly and honestly about sex and sexual matters.
Ability to engage clients in effective, therapeutic/healthy interactions.
Ability to serve as a positive role model.
Ability to respect the clients’ culture and assist them in participating in that culture.
Ability to drive safely, including in urban and suburban environments.
Ability to maintain all levels of supervision with clients as outlined in their supervision plan.
Ability to perform crisis intervention techniques as required upon completion of training.
Ability to maintain high levels of vigilance for extended time periods.
High School diploma or equivalent, Bachelor’s degree preferred
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
