Position Summary

Career Services is acombination of supported education and employment. Supported employment is an evidence-based,well-defined approach to helping people with disabilities participate in thecompetitive labor market, helping them find meaningful jobs and providingongoing support from a team of professionals. Post-secondary education is theprimary mechanism used to support individuals in achieving theircareer-oriented goals.

 

PRINCIPLES of Supported Employment:

 

• Given the propersupports, work environment, and the desire to work, all people withdisabilities are employable.

• The primary goal ofsupported employment services is to help individuals find employment thatoffers competitive wages in typical work settings regardless of disability.

• Informed individualchoice, self-determination, and person centered services form the foundation ofall professional supports.

• Individualsstrengths, abilities, preferences, and interests help to guide the job searchand ultimate work selection.

• The development of acareer path that includes future planning, skill building, and ongoing careerexploration, which facilitates the progression from entry-level positions tohigher levels of pay, skill, responsibility, or authority. 

 




  • Responsibilities/Duties


     

    Essential Duties and Functions

     

    • Providesupportive peer services to PIRs

    • Role modelwellness and recovery.

    • Identifyrecovery goals to assist PIRs with their career goals.

    • Utilize variousassessments to identify individuals’ skill levels as well as areas ofneed. 

    • Help individualsdefine an individual Career path and supports needed.

    • Supportindividuals with identifying ADA accommodations required to successfullyfunction in an environment of their choosing.

    • Assistindividuals with connecting with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR),CareerLink Services, work-based and assessment programs.

    • Connectindividuals with education institutions/certificate programs of their choosing.

    • Provide supportaround managing symptoms/maintaining wellness, through the use of WRAP andother resources.

    • Explore andidentify problem solving techniques with individuals, explore and identifyskills to combat negative self-talk,

    • Explore andidentify techniques to overcome fears, and

      Explore/ identify coping strategies and relapse prevention skills.

      Support individuals with SSI/SSDI related planning to ensure limitedrisk to benefit reductions.

    • Submit dailydocumentation of services and activities provided to CPS Supervisor

    • Attend alltrainings as required by regulations and as desired for professionaldevelopment.

    • Attend programstaff meetings.

    • Complete allother assigned tasks as designated by the CPS Team Leader and Unit Director


    Required Experience

    • Knowledge/Skills: Preferred but not required

      • Knowledge ofrecovery principles and tools

      • Certified PeerSpecialist service expectations

      • Knowledge ofWRAP

      • Knowledge of Officeof Rehabilitation services

      • Proficiency withnavigating online job sites (Indeed, Careerbuilder, etc…)

      • Familiarity withcollege entrance and financial aid application processes.

         

    • Ability toutilize the RHD values and values of Certified Peer Specialists in supervision

    • Unconditionalability to maintain HIPPA regulations

    • Excellentinterpersonal and communication skills

    • Able tocommunicate in written and verbal format

    • Ability todocument daily activities and recovery goals

    • Ability to rolemodel recovery and hope

    • DemonstrateInitiative

    • Ability to hearanecdotal information and reframe in the context of facts and data in anempathic manner

    • Knowledge ofMicrosoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)

    • Ability tosupport and implement RHD and unit values and beliefs

    • Demonstrateeffective time management skills and follow through.


    Required Education

    • HS Diploma/GED
