Description/Job Summary

The Employment Specialist is a participant support role designed to support Deaf individuals to identify employment opportunities and support deaf individuals while working in the community. Incumbent must be able to perform language facilitation for Deaf individuals.

Responsibilities/Duties

The following is an itemized list that includes but is not limited to:

  • Providing job support to working program participants
  • Assist deaf individuals to find and/or develop jobs
  • Perform job analysis and task analysis documentation
  • Complete timely, compliant service documentation
  • Serve as point of contact with the individual's employer
  • Assist with developing job productivity, safety and assimilating to work place culture
  • Develop and implement participant fade plan documentation
  • Plan transportation and travel training
  • Practice thorough and open communication with program administrative office regarding participant employment
  • Attend all staff meetings
  • Prepare case records and reports including placement and job coaching forms
  • Coaching participants while at work
  • Punctuality
  • While this role supports deaf individuals, it is not an interpreter role.
  • Compensation increases are built into the development of the role based on the practitioner’s ability to meet funders’ quality standards.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 year experience serving individuals with IDD, Autism, SMI in community inclusion, technical skills acquisition and employment
  • Must be proficient in American Sign Language (requires documentation)
  • Preferred: CESP Certification
  • Required: ACRE 90 days after hire. Will train.
  • Minimum education: Associates
  • Required: Ability to work one weekend day per week, nights as needed.
  • Required: Drivers’ License
  • Required: Reliable transportation
