Responsibilities/Duties

Job Responsibilities:

  • Cooks food according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions.
  • Portions and arranges food for serving.
  • Prepares some foods in advance.
  • Cleans equipment, kitchen appliances (this includes the microwave), refrigerators, freezers and work areas in order to ensure cleanliness and functional operation. (These duties are to be performed weekly). The two freezers in the basement are to be defrosted monthly, cleaned, sanitized and reorganized. Shelves and items are to be cleaned weekly.
  • Informs Director when supplies are getting low.
  • Informs Director when kitchen equipment is not working properly.
  • Orders food and kitchen material from approved vendors after Director’s approval.
  • Food orders are to be put away in a timely manner, as well as stored and labeled correctly.
  • Weekly inventory for outdated foods (dry goods as well as frozen and refrigerated, this includes the emergency supply)
  • Adheres to residential food budget.
  • Provides direction and duty assignments for kitchen assistants.
  • Completes dietary notices for all new residents and updates them as needed.
  • Completes a daily log of refrigerator and freezer temperatures on the form provided.
  • Ensures that there are adequate eating utensils (plates, cups, forks, spoons knives, etc.).
  • Ensures that the items in the pantry are neat and orderly.
  • Ensure that there is adequate food and beverage in the “emergency supply”.
  • Ability to be flexible with work schedule.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the Director.



Required Experience

Minimum of 1 year experience in commercial or residential food service, whereas the individual had primary responsibility for menu planning, food preparation and budgeting. 

Required Education

High School Diploma, or GED along Current Serve Safe Certificate (must be able to secure food service certificate in 30 days if not current)

QUALIFICATIONS:

ServSafe Certification Mandatory. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of preparation methods and practices for a variety of foods.
  • Knowledge of basic kitchen sanitation methods.
  • Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Skill in the use, operation, and maintenance of kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret recipes and calculate necessary quantities of ingredients.
  • Ability to coordinate both preparation and timing for food menu items.
  • Ability to perform work requiring considerable standing and light-medium physical effort under hot working conditions.
  • Acceptable standards of personal cleanliness.
