Description/Job Summary

Maintenance Worker

On Our Own is a community-based program providing comprehensive residential and day services in nine staffed homes to adults with autism, developmental and other neurobiological disabilities, as well as medical complications. Emphasis is placed on developing communication skills, social supports and daily living skills.

Position Summary
 
Performs maintenance service and repairs in the areas of:

  • Landscaping & Grounds keeping
    • Mow lawns
    • Trim around trees and buildings, along curb and sidewalks
    • Trim bushes and prune trees and shrubs
    • Fall and Spring cleanup
    • Pick weeds from landscaped areas
    • Bike path maintenance
    • Trash & debris removal
  • Snow removal
    • Snow blowing, shoveling sidewalks and handicap ramps
    • Snow plowing parking lots
    • Spread salt/sand on sidewalks and parking lots
    • Ice scraping, as needed
  • Remove & install window air conditioners
  • Clean gutters
  • Minor carpentry and painting
    • Drywall patching
    • Painting (with roller/sprayer), varnish/stain doors or furniture
  • Door/frame repairs & installation
    • Lock replacement
    • Install door levers
    • Install hydraulic pumps
  • Fixing safety hazards
  • Minor plumbing repairs, as allowed by local ordinance
    • Toilets (repair & replacement)
    • Washer Machines hoses
    • Shut off valves
    • Lighting water heaters & furnaces
  • Assess heating systems
  • Minor electrical, as allowed by local ordinance
    • Understand basic electrical principals
    • Switch/outlet replacements
  • Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age with a valid driver license and a clean driving record as determined by our insurance carrier.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in Maintenance or relevant trades.
  • Is knowledgeable in the procedures and safety measures in general maintenance and repairs.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background and motor vehicle check.
  • Must be able to give work direction and work well under pressure and deadline driven.
  • Must have good communication skills and be an effective listener.
  • Must be reliable, possess a positive attitude and can work independently.
  • Must have general maintenance tools with a reliable transportation to perform employment responsibilities.
  • Ability to carry and climb extension and step ladders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft® Outlook and internet.

  • Competently and safely operate, service, and maintain equipment, vehicles, or tools. These may include, but are not limited to: riding mowers, push mowers, trucks, snow plows, chain saws, sod cutters, snow blowers, rakes, shovels, pruning shears, and minor power equipment.
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends when required.
  • Must be able to work a rotating 7 day on call schedule.  

Required Experience

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in Maintenance or relevant trades.
  • Is knowledgeable in the procedures and safety measures in general maintenance and repairs.
  • Must have general maintenance tools with a reliable transportation to perform employment responsibilities
