Description/Job Summary

Recovery Specialist On-Call

New Start I is a Level 2B residential treatment program that provides new and innovative ways to service men in the Journey of Hope Program with co-occurring mental health and substance use challenges that meet the requirements by the city for chronic homelessness. New Start I program has provided residential treatment for over twenty years to this population, and provides innovative and effective re-entry services to people post-adjudication. The components of the program include; Individualized Treatment Planning; Delivery of Evidence Based Treatment Models; Person- Centered Individual Treatment Sessions; One to One Activities with a Peer Specialist; Job / School Readiness with a Recovery Coach; and Drug and Alcohol Support Groups onsite.
                                      
Responsibilities:  Life Skills and Educational Counseling
A. Person in Recovery Chores/House Maintenance
  • Support PIRs in maintaining the physical plant by monitoring and  inspecting their household chores.
  • Support PIRs in completing their household tasks.
  • Maintain the building repair log.                           
  • Support PIRs in maintaining daily schedule.     
B. Food and Household Goods
  • Assist and support cook in meal planning, food inventory, the creation of  a grocery shopping list,  and grocery shopping as assigned by the Director.
  • Support, assist, and monitor meal preparation.
  • Support implementation of Nutrition Program.
  • Monitor and assist at mealtime.
  • Monitor the food and household goods budget.
  • Meal preparation on occasion.
C. Medication and Health Management
  • Assist PIRs  in securing prescriptions.                      
  • Log new medication in medication log book.
  • Monitor the PIR’s self-administration of all medication and log in medication log as assigned by Director.
  • Assist PIRs in scheduling medical appointments and follow-up on medical recommendations.
  • Collect and document collection of PIRs’ urine samples as assigned.
D.  Educational:
  • Collaborate with PIRs  to complete all ADL level responsibilities.
  •  Distribute and collect initial and discharge Consumer Satisfaction Survey
  •  Assist PIRs in conflict resolution.
  •  Provide crisis intervention.
  •  Participate in Program milieu.
  •  Attend and/or facilitate educational groups and meetings (e.g. meal planning,Community Meeting) as assigned by Director.
  •  Actively support PIRs  in facilitating socialization and recreation activities.
E. Program:
  • Document educational groups and any other significant PIR contact.
  • Conduct, facilitate and document fire drills as assigned by the Director.
  • Participate in Team Support Mtgs., Staff Mtgs. and supervision as assigned by Director
  • Read log daily and document in log at the end of each shift.
  • Complete intake packets and inventory each PIR’s possessions upon admission and discharge.
  • Assist PIRs in securing all benefits for which they are eligible (e.g. Welfare, SSI)   
  • Escort PIRs to appointments and shopping as assigned by Director.
  • Conduct filing, chart auditing and medication reviews as assigned.
  • Provide emergency coverage for next shift.
  •  As assigned by Director to insure continuity of care.      
 Requirements:
  • High School Graduate or G.E.D required.  
  • Proficient in MS Word and web-based email required.
  •  Must be available to work weekends and holidays. 
  • Personal Recovery/Life Experience accepted.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
