Blank Canvas Studios is a creative arts program for individuals with developmental disabilities, providing people of all ability levels the opportunity to create and be celebrated for their very special style of outsider art. We allow our artists the opportunity
to create uninhibited art to the best of their ability. We are seeking Direct Support Professionals to facilitate meaningful days, days that make sense to our participants, the artists.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Able to follow verbal and written instructions
Able to exercise good judgment and initiative in providing services and supports to the individuals
Assist/support individuals in training programs as specified in their Individual Support Plans
Provide direct assistance/support to the individuals as needed to perform the tasks of daily living and daily routines such as personal hygiene, dining skills, keeping space clean, etc.
Facilitate daily activities and routines with the individuals on assigned shift
Assist with individual’s mobility as needed for those whose walk is unsteady and/or they rely on a wheelchair
Assist/support individuals during mealtimes to include meal preparation, family style dining, and clean-up. Use this time to teach and promote social skills
Attend and satisfactorily complete all scheduled mandatory orientation training, annual in-service and all other training as required and mandatory by governing standards and/or RHD
Complete any and all data collection, MAR’s, observation notes and daily reports as instructed
Ensure individuals receive their medications as prescribed by their physician and documented on the Medication Administration Record (MAR).Specifically, make certain the correct medication(s), dosage, route and time have been given to the individual and
documented appropriately on the MAR’s
Must be willing to drive company vehicles for outing opportunities in the arts and entertainment.
Assess the individual’s abilities, interests, changes in health status, etc. on an on-going basis and document/report to the Manager
Participate in all staff meetings
Monitor individual’s activities and assure all safety and health care practices are observed. Ensure universal precautions are observed
Use open, positive, encouraging interactions with the individuals that reflect dignity and respect while promoting their independence, ability to choose, rights and responsibilities
Must maintain a good attendance record for reporting to work on time as scheduled
Possess or acquire through staff training the ability to express and perform job duties that reflect a working knowledge of individuals rights, abuse and neglect, person-centered services, including personal Support Plans and goals of integrating persons
with disabilities into the community
Maintain positive communications/relationships with the individuals, Support Coordinators, families, friends and other agencies involved with the individuals residing in the home
Complete all other duties as assigned by the Director SKILLS NEEDED:

Positive, supportive and encouraging personal interaction skills
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED
Valid Missouri Driver’s License and a good driving record
Satisfactory completion of criminal background check as required by federal and/or state laws and any other post-offer pre-employment screenings as mandated by a governing agency or RHD
Some previous experience in supporting/assisting persons with developmental disabilities is preferred
