Fine Line Studios is an arts-based day program supporting adults with developmental disabilities, located in the Bridgeton neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. We offer the individuals we serve an outlet for unbridled creativity and self-expression through visual arts, music, and community involvement. We provide people with the tools and materials to create art and the supports to define themselves as artists and become independent in their lives through the arts.

Being a Direct Support Professional at Fine Line Studios is more than just a job, it's a rewarding opportunity to work in a creative environment by assisting people with special needs to explore the arts and express themselves. A DSP art staff is a creative and responsible individual able to collaborate with studio management, studio staff, and the artists we support in order to assist FLS artists in developing, organizing, and promoting their artwork both at the studio and in the community.                     


A FLS Direct Support Professional Art Staff will be able to do the following:

  • Facilitate groups of adults with disabilities in creating art with various art mediums.
  • Have an understanding of and demonstrate respect for the human rights of the people we support.
  • Understand and demonstrate the principle of confidentiality at all times.
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Able to exercise good judgment, positive modeling and initiative in providing services and supports to the individuals.
  • Assist/support individuals in training programs as specified in their Individual Program Plans and the program activity schedule.
  • Provide direct assistance/support to the individuals as needed to perform the tasks of daily living and daily routines such as personal hygiene, dining skills and other associated tasks.
  • Facilitate daily activities and routines with the individuals on assigned shift.
  • Assist with individual’s mobility as needed for those whose walk is unsteady and/or they rely on a wheelchair.
  • Assist/support individuals during mealtimes. Use this time to teach and promote social skills.
  • Attend and satisfactorily complete all scheduled mandatory orientation training, annual in-service and all other training as required and mandatory by governing standards and/or RHD policy.
  • Complete any and all data collection, MAR's, observation notes and daily reports as instructed
  • Ensure individuals receive their medications as prescribed by their physician and documented on the Medication Administration Record (MAR). Specifically, make certain the correct medication(s), dosage, route and time have been given to the individual and documented appropriately on the MAR.
  • Access to vehicle in good working order and maintaining current license, registration, and insurance.
  • Assess the individuals abilities, interests, changes in health status, etc. on an on-going basis and document/report to Management.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and/or staff development days, approval to miss either of these meetings must be given from the Director of the program
  • Monitor individuals activities and assure all safety and health care practices are observed. Ensure universal precautions are observed.
  • Use open, positive, encouraging interactions with the individuals that reflect dignity and respect while promoting their independence, ability to choose, rights and responsibilities.
  • Must maintain a good attendance record by reporting to work on time as scheduled
  • Possess or acquire through staff training the ability to express and perform job duties that reflect a working knowledge of individuals rights, abuse and neglect, person-centered services, including personal Support Plans and goals of integrating persons with disabilities into the community
  • Maintain positive communications/relationships with the individuals, Support Coordinators, families, friends, fellow employees and other agencies involved with the individuals residing in the home
  • Maintains safe body positioning when working with people in any activity.
  • Contributes to the upkeep, maintenance, and organization of the program, this includes all RHD vehicles and equipment.  Including but not limited to cleanliness and organization after usage.
  • Identifies with supervisor opportunities for personal growth.
  • Demonstrate a strong belief and commitment to the values of Resources for Human Development.
  • Complete other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Program Director

Required Education

  • High School diploma or GED

Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license and car insurance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to focus and multi-task, be flexible, and maintain composure during crisis.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and initiative in providing services and supports to the artists.
  • Reliable and punctual.

Through classes in drawing & illustration, painting techniques, printmaking, ceramics & sculpture, jewelry, fibers, filmmaking, creative writing, and original music production, we allow our clients to explore their creative desires and develop their artistic skills. We help our individuals gain access to the local community through volunteering and leisure activities, by visiting local art museums and galleries, and showcasing their artwork in exhibitions. The staff members we employ to support our artists come from various backgrounds in the arts, allowing us to create a vibrant, diverse, and unique culture.
