Description/Job Summary

The registered nurse is expected to coordinate all nursing and medical services for a caseload of consumers with intellectual disabilities supported by RHD-Kansas City, as well as, provide nursing related services to individuals supported at a day program.  The job duties of this professional level position involve guidance to Direct Support Professionals, Team Leaders, and Directors regarding medical care of consumers and coordinating medical appointments of individuals supported by RHD-Kansas City.  The registered nurse will work with outside medical professionals to ensure that consumers served by RHD-Kansas City have their medical needs met as per Department of Mental Health regulations.  The registered nurse will also conduct medication administration training for all employees of RHD-Kansas City.

Responsibilities/Duties

Complete monthly face to face consumer reviews and reports.
Oversee the medication administration process in all residential homes and day program.
Coordinate the scheduling of routine medical appointments for residential consumers.
Educate staff regarding medical needs of consumers and provide educational information as necessary.
Act as medical consultant to caregivers and families concerning the well-being of those supported by RHD-Kansas City.
Teach Medication Administration Level 1 training for agency employees.
Perform delegation training to staff at RHD-Kansas City when necessary.
Complete forms and/or documentation necessary to support those served by RHD-Kansas City.
With assistance from Team Leaders, ensure all homes meet medical care standards necessary for DMH rules and regulations.
Provide medical consultation as needed to ensure safety and well-being of both consumers and caregivers.
Participate in Person Centered Planning process and referral process.
Work cooperatively with residential team to ensure quality service to all those supported by RHD-Kansas City.
Provide delegation training at the request of either residential or day program directors.
Complete a monthly nursing log and submit it to the fiscal administrator by the 5th of each month.Complete other duties as assigned by the Residential Director.

Required Experience


2 year’s experience in professional medical settings. 5 years preferred.

Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.

Required Education

Associates Degree as a Registered Nurse.  Bachelors Degree is preferred.
Current license as a Registered Nurse within the state of Missouri.

Required Qualifications

Proficient with Microsoft Office

Strong written and verbal communication

Experience with teaching basic medical information preferred.

Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team including professionals with non-medical backgrounds.
