Description/Job Summary

The mission of Resources for Human Development (RHD) is to provide caring, effective and innovative services that empower people of all abilities as they build better lives for themselves, their families and their communities.  RHD’s multi-faceted programs serve people with a variety of challenges that include intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness, substance abuse and homelessness.

RHD Boston provides residential, day, and in home support services in the Greater Boston Area  to men and women with developmental and intellectual disabilities and individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Programs focus on a person-centered planning approach, much care is given to working with individuals to create homes adapted to meet individual needs. We provide intensive support in the area of life skills, social skills, and community integration with an emphasis on having fun while pursing personal goals.

We are looking for individuals interested in working relief (on call), part-time, and full-time at our residential programs and art based community day program as Direct Support Professionals (DSP).  Programs are located in Walpole, West Roxbury, Roslindale, Waltham, Somerville, Arlington and Medford.

*Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure health and safety of all individuals served
  • Develop and maintain a therapeutic relationship with individuals
  • Participate in the design, implementation and monitoring of ISP’s
  • Follow clinical programs as outlined in individual’s service plan, take data as required
  • Provide guidance, support and direction as needed
  • Model and advocate for individuals’ rights and choices
  • Communicate with supervisors and management team regarding individual program issues
  • Assist individuals with :
    • Food preparation
    • Household cleaning and maintenance
    • Personal health and hygiene needs
    • Personal or house shopping
    • Home and community-based outings and trainings
    • Personal fund accounts
    • Banking

 If at any time an individual is unable to assist in the above, staff are responsible for completing the activities.

  • Administer medication as per Medication Administration Policy (MAP)
  • Understand and follow emergency procedures
  • Encourage individuals to choose and participate in meaningful activities
  • Follow all procedures outlined for handling individual and/or petty cash funds
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

*Job Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current First Aid Certification (must complete within one month of hire)
  • Valid driver’s license preferred
  • Medication Administration (MAP license) Certification within three months of hire (preference given to candidates with current MAP license
