Position Summary
The RSS is responsible for safety and supervision of the clients to facilitate sexually healthy and socially acceptable behaviors. This position will coordinate with clinical staff, implement residentially based interventions and assist the clients in achieving their clinical assignments. The RSS is responsible for fulfilling the obligations as outlined in the client’s program plan. The RSS will prompt or assist, as necessary, to ensure the clients participate in the activities of daily living, in both the home and the community. This includes healthcare coordination and transportation. In addition the RSS is responsible for the operations of the home, including but not limited to maintenance of the interior of the home. A commitment to the RHD values should be demonstrated as job duties are performed. Compensation may vary due to the needs of the individuals in the home.
Essential Duties and Functions
  • Supervise the clients according to planned supervision levels
  • Follow all therapeutic guidelines as outlined by the clinical team and weekly staff approach notes
  • Read consumer’s ISP at each new home, and after each ISP update/revision. ISPs should be read annually at a minimum
  • Implement the goal plans from the individualized support plan (ISP)
  • Support and encourage consumers in daily life skill development such as meal planning, cooking/food preparation, cleaning and maintaining the home, shopping, academics, socialization, utilizing community resources, vocational, social and interpersonal development, etc.
  • Assist with the coordination of client appointments and activities, and community events (ie. arranging transport and/or assist clients to and from appointments, coordinate needed funds with the Site Supervisor, etc.)
  • Assist consumers with the purchase of items with personal or program funds; ensure receipts or proof of purchase is obtained in accordance to consumer fund management guidelines
  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety plans and the completion of identified therapeutic goals
  • Support consumers in achieving outcomes during psycho-educational groups and clubs and enhance social skills as directed by clinician
  • Complete all necessary documentation prior to the end of each shift, including: mileage logs, medication logs, progress notes, sleep logs, menuplans, telephone logs, client inventories, incident reports, serious concerns, medical/dental forms, fire drills, outing logs, therapy tracking logs, etc.
  • Inform Site Supervisor of the needs of the home, vehicle and RHD property in a timely manner
  • Complete electronic time sheet at the end of every shift
  • Attend all mandatory staff trainings as identified by RHD, or State or governing agencies
  • Communicate with staff at shift change about the status of the clients
  • Provide transportation and access to approved in home and community activities
  • Administer consumer medication as prescribed (after completion of Medication Administration Training), and complete all corresponding documentation. On-call RSS are not permitted to administer medication to consumers. On-call RSS do have the following expectations around medications - ensuring that their assigned consumers receive medication from a staff person who is medication certified, and conducting controlled substance counts
  • Immediately communicate suspected abuse/neglect to Site Supervisor, Assistant Director, or Unit Director
  • Provide emergency medical procedures as needed, including Basic First Aid, and CPR (after completion of CPR Training)
  • Identify, write-up and notify the point person for all unusual incidents in the mandatedtimelines (serious concerns, and Incident Reports)
  • Maintain supervision level, as outlined in the ISP, and appropriate therapeutic boundaries at all times
  • Represent the Mainstay program in a professional manner at all times
  • Complete all other miscellaneous tasks assigned
  • High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Valid driver’s license; and acceptable driving record
  • State police clearance, and FBI clearance
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Medication Administration certification
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training
  • Training hours as required by RHD Mainstay, licensing and regulations
    Qualifications include:
  • Knowledge of the characteristics of sexual offending
  • Knowledge of and compliance with the PA 6400 Regulations and IDS Guidelines
  • Knowledge of RHD Corporate and Mainstay policies and procedures

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written form
  • Ability to speak frankly, honestly, and appropriately about sex and sexual matters
  • Ability to engage clients in effective, therapeutic, and healthy interactions
  • Knowledge of the impact of trauma on the well-being of the individuals receiving services, as well as the impact on staff well-being.
  • Ability to maintain professional and therapeutic boundaries
  • Ability to develop and implement client safety plans
  • Ability to respect the clients’ culture and identity, and assist them in participating in that culture
  • Ability to maintain all levels of supervision with the clients
  • Ability to perform crisis intervention techniques as required
  • Ability to maintain high levels of vigilance for extended time periods

Additional Special Working Conditions:
The RSS will have direct contact with individuals that have co-occurring disorders including Intellectual & Developmental disAbilities (IDD) who also have Problem Sexual Behaviors (PSB) and/or Sexual Offences (SO).  Willingness to work with and support individuals with IDD/PSB/SO is essential for this position.
