Description/Job Summary

The Art Instructor works together with participants at CCW to teach, encourage art making techniques and skills both in regard to free art making as well as creative professional/developmental skills in the arts. This position requires as art background with skills in various art making techniques and materials. This position is responsible for contributing as a member of the CCW team to curriculum ideas and direction of CCW as a creative development program and works together with the entire CCW team on appropriate functional aspects of day-to-day programming.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Share your specialized art skills to CCW participants to help teach participants basic strategies such as composition, professionalizing work, and self-presentation as artists as well as fostering the artistic potential of the CCW program.
  • Be part of the arts instructor team and design creative projects and lessons to be carried out at the center.
  • Relay expertise in the use of art making materials, tools and equipment to a group of CCW artists. Teach basic skills and handling of these materials.
  • Assist CCW artists in learning skills necessary to carry out collaborative projects as well as their own, individual artwork.  Assist artists in acquiring an understanding of exhibition of work, pricing and sales of work.
  • Meet the basic needs of our participants, which may include medication administration, assisting in toileting, and other ADL’s (Activities of Daily Living), as well as provide vocational and skill building programming.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in an art related field or a minimum of 3 years’ studio practice. (Bachelor’s Degree with studio practice preferred).

  • Ability to support and implement RHD/CCW’s Values and beliefs.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to apply and continually develop professional skills.

  • Ability to establish priorities, multi-task, and meet deadlines in a dynamic, open, fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
  • Skills in specialized art making technique and the ability to transfer those skills in a studio environment to a group of people through engagement and hands on guidance.

Program Summary

Center for Creative Works is an Art Center located in Wynnewood, PA. We are a creative day program for adults with developmental disabilities. Each day, our staff of 15-20 artists and instructors work with participants to guide in the areas of specialized professions and the art making process, while offering professional and technique skills. Our goal is to assist in the building of social capital, as well as to support the vocation of artist/professional for our population. This goal is achieved by promoting their creations and design work, through marketing and exhibitions. Additionally, community engagement is used as a means to raise awareness in the greater community to outsider art, shared interests and professional contributions.
