Description/Job Summary

The function of the Addiction Counselor is to provide integrated mental health and substance abuse services to consumers with co-occurring disorders. The Addiction Counselor’s job responsibilities include assessment, use of stage-wise interventions, provision of substance abuse group, implementation of harm reduction techniques, and treatment planning. This is a full-time, 40 hour/week position.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Include but are not limited to: provide therapeutic support for mental health and substance abuse: incorporate recovery based and harm reduction strategies into therapeutic work with consumers
  • facilitate recovery groups
  • utilize motivational enhancement therapy and stages of change techniques
  • complete electronic progress notes, individualized recovery plans, etc.
  • meet with consumers in theyr homes/community
  • transport consumers to various appointments in the community
  • participate in a rotating on-call schedule with other team members
  • work collaboratively with all members of the MACT 1 team in supporting consumers in their wellness goals; etc.

Required Experience

  • One year of training/experience in substance abuse treatment required. 
  • One to three years of work experience with persons with severe and persistent mental illness and substance use/abuse issues preferred. 
  • Prior experience with in-home work is preferred. 

Required Education

  • A Master’s degree in Social Work or Counseling
  • Must have a LMSW, PLPC, or LAC

Required Qualifications

* This position requires applicants to have a driver's license and vehicle for use on the job, a high degree of patience, flexibility, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, computer literacy, and the ability to work amicably in a team-based environment.

Program Summary

The ACT mobile treatment support team will provide treatment and support services to one hundred (100) persons per year. The persons served by the team will be individuals with mental illness and/or substance abuse issues and their families.
