Mental Health Professional and Crisis Worker, hereafter referred to solely as Crisis Worker, assures that all operating procedures and regulations are followed. The Crisis Worker is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for consumers and staff, and to establish and maintain a therapeutic milieu for the clinical benefit of the consumers and those who care for or about the consumers. This care is to be provided while in the residence by providing both supportive crisis counseling and assistance with negotiating the activities of daily living. Crisis Workers gather necessary information, explore presenting problems, work to alleviate the immediate crisis, and provide linkage to additional services for on-going treatment. Crisis Workers provide crisis counseling to adults in the residence who exhibit acute problems of disturbed thought, behavior, mood, or social relationships. All workers are expected to follow all applicable guidelines regarding confidentiality of consumer information, including the Mental Health Procedure Act, HIPAA, and RHD policy.

Spend at least 75% of scheduled time in direct, face-to-face contact during work hours when consumers are awake or if they are unable to sleep during overnight hours.
Conduct psycho-educational, skills training, and supportive crisis counseling in the residence, in order to assist consumers with improving their abilities to cope with the stresses of daily living.
Observe all scheduled and as needed (PRN) medication observations (see Med. Obs. Training and Policy) and assist as directed by Residential Nurse; i.e.: blood pressure, pulse, temperature, etc.
Complete counting and documenting of controlled substances and ensure that medications are kept locked and accounted for within the parameters of the medical policies and procedures.
Accurately document all interactions with consumers and/or collateral in the Hope House Database using DAP format and specific contact times by the end of the scheduled shift.
Follow any instructions from the previous shift for special consumer needs or contacts.
Perform insurance verification via the EVS system for all consumers to ensure no change in funding or to update the funding source in the Hope House Database.
Provide referral and other case management services as assigned and as appropriate.
Perform clean up and maintenance duties as assigned on the program chore list.
Identify and resolve light maintenance problems and report lager issues to supervisory staff.
Exhibit professional behavior treating consumers and co-workers with dignity and respect.
Assist consumers with Hope House daily activities including, but not limited to, early waking, daily planning, meal preparation and clean up, adherence to the daily program schedule and other areas of daily living.
Facilitate the residential referral process, medication documentation, intakes, treatment plans, shift and contact notes and accurately document in the Hope House database.
Work collaboratively with other staff members to ensure that all essential daily tasks are completed as directed and in a timely manner.
Facilitate transportation for consumers to needed appointments within the scope of treatment.
Attend mandated staff meetings, trainings and individual supervision as scheduled
Experience in social work, psychology, rehabilitation, activity therapy, counseling, education or related fields and 3 years of direct mental health experience.
A master’s degree “in social work, psychology, rehabilitation, activity therapy, counseling, education or related fields and 3 years of direct mental health experience”.
A bachelor’s degree in sociology, social work, psychology, gerontology, anthropology, political science, history, criminal justice, theology, counseling, education or a related field, or be a registered nurse, and 5 years of mental health direct care experience , 2 of which shall include supervisory experience.
The Mental Health Professional or Crisis Worker shall be a person with an interest in and understanding of individuals with mental illness and experience working with this population. He or she will be a mature individual with sound judgment who represents an appropriate resource for consumers and collaterals. He or she shall be flexible enough to respond to crisis situations, work collaboratively as a team, and take responsibility when decisions have to be made.
The Mental Health Professional or Crisis Worker must meet or exceed qualifications for the established position as per Pennsylvania State Regulations Title 55 Public Welfare, Part VII Mental Health Manual, Subpart D. Nonresidential agencies/ Facilities/ Services, Chapter 5240 Crisis Intervention Services, Section 5240.31 Staff Requirements, most recent revised addition dated 09.15.2014 or the most recent dated update. The Mental Health Professional or Crisis Worker must have a valid driver’s license and reliable means of transportation, and provide a negative FBI fingerprint, child abuse, and criminal background clearance.
Hope House provides short-term residential services for adults in psychiatric crisis. We offer a safe and supportive environment for people who need a place to stay until they stabilize and can safely return to the community. Our maximum capacity is eight individuals. The average length of stay is one week. Trained staff members are on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our dedicated staff of Bachelor's and Master's level professionals is focused on assisting consumers in resolving their immediate crisis and mobilizing support systems in the community for ongoing treatment and support.
Hope House is licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is primarily funded through contracts with Magellan Behavioral Health, Northampton County MH/MR and Lehigh County MH/MR.
