Resources for Human Development is OPEN and hiring for a Full-Time Crisis Worker to join our program located in the Bethlehem area. The Crisis Worker provides direct services to consumers, significant others, and collateral resources and assists consumers with their daily living needs.

  • Consumer Care including spending at least 75% of scheduled time in direct, face to face or telephone interactions with consumers.
  • Conduct psycho-educational, skills training, and supportive crisis counseling in residence or community
  • Observe all scheduled and as needed (PRN) medication observations and assist as directed by Residential Nurse i.e. blood pressure, pulse, temperature, etc.
  • Community Involvement and Team Work including but not limited to providing referral and other case management services for consumers and families at times of contacts; either on the phone, in the community, or in the residence prior to discharge
  • Residential Crisis Specific Duties including but not limited to early walking, daily planning, meal preparation, and clean-up, maintaining necessary scheduled appointments that have been approved by supervisory team member
  • Telephone Crisis Specific Duties including screening incoming calls, providing appropriate telephone counseling, consultation, assessment, and referral to needed services including Mobile and/or Residential Crisis Intervention services

Required Experience

  • Two years of experience in public or private human services with one year of mental health direct care experience.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work in sociology, social work, psychology, gerontology, anthropology, political science, history, criminal justice, theology, nursing, counseling, education, or a related field.


  • High school diploma or equivalency and 12 semester credit hours in sociology, social welfare, psychology; gerontology; or other social science 

Required Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in public or private human services with one year of mental health direct care experience.

Program Summary

Hope House provides short-term residential accommodations and continuous supervision for eight individuals in a psychiatric crisis. Licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, the program provides mental health and stabilization services as a voluntary alternative to hospitalization. Individuals enter the program for up to a maximum of ten days until they stabilize or other arrangements can be made for them.
