Description/Job Summary

The Payroll Coordinator is responsible for conducting complex payroll functions under minimum guidance and direction.  Working fairly independently, this role performs diverse payroll duties while projecting a professional company image through in-person and telephone interactions.  This position requires computer knowledge, math skills, organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively.

$18.47/hour

Essential Duties and Functions

  • Process payroll on a bi-weekly basis, including hourly and salaried employees
  • Responsible for the entry, maintenance, and accuracy of pay rate changes, status changes and departmental changes in Lawson system

  • Ability to calculate overtime (weighted average) and holiday pay for manual adjustments

  • Responsible for the accurate computation of gross wages

  • Ability to calculate differential payments as needed

  • Handle garnishments, deductions, and PTO accruals

  • Verify employees paid time off

  • Review payroll documentation for accuracy through edit process

  • Distribute payroll checks to units for regular and supplemental payroll process

  • Distribute payroll checks to units for regular and supplemental payroll process

  • Ability to handle discrepancies in an employee’s paycheck (explain pay calculations to employees)

  • Assist with conducting yearly payroll audit

  • Train new unit administrative staff on payroll procedures, deadlines, forms and timecard entry

  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Some college preferred
  • 2-3 years’ experience processing multi-state payroll (or 1 year of payroll experience using Lawson)

  • Experience with Lawson software highly preferred

  • Familiarity with payroll taxes and exclusions

  • Knowledge to manually calculate a paycheck from gross to net

  • Ability to work as a team

  • Organized, self-motivated, and self –directed

  • Effective problem solving and decision-making skills

  • Superior time and resource management skills – prioritizes time for multiple and varied duties

  • Excellent critical thinking skills/follow-up skills are essential
